Glassnote Records inks global distribution deal with The Orchard

Indie music company Glassnote [78 articles]” href=”https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/companies/glassnote/”>Glassnote Records, famed for signing and developing Grammy Award-winning acts like Mumford & Sons and Phoenix, has a new distribution partner.

Glassnote has entered into a global distribution partnership with The Orchard [191 articles]” href=”https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/companies/sony/sony-music-group/sony-music-entertainment/the-orchard/”>The Orchard, which is owned by Sony Music Entertainment [1,197 articles]” href=”https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/companies/sony/sony-music-group/sony-music-entertainment/”>Sony Music.

The new partnership comes three years after Glassnote entered into a global partnership with Kobalt Music Group [579 articles]” href=”https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/companies/kobalt-music-group/”>Kobalt‘s AWAL [234 articles]” href=”https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/companies/sony/sony-music-group/sony-music-entertainment/awal/”>AWAL.

With the AWAL deal now presumably expired, Glassnote is sticking with Sony Music, via a partnership with another Sony [1,588 articles]” href=”https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/companies/sony/”>Sony-owned entity. UK headquartered AWAL was acquired by Sony for $430 million in May 2021.

Glassnote originally joined RED Distribution, a subsidiary of Sony Music Group [217 articles]” href=”https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/companies/sony/sony-music-group/”>Sony Music Group, in 2008.

It then shifted its global distribution to Universal Music Group [2,730 articles]” href=”https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/companies/universal-music-group/”>Universal Music Group before inking its AWAL deal in 2018, and now returns to Sony Music Group with The Orchard deal.

Under Glassnote’s agreement with The Orchard, the latter company says it will provide the indie giant’s full artist roster with a worldwide network of services and capabilities.

Within the last decade, Glassnote Records successes have included releases like the Grammy-Award Winning Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (2009) album by French indie pop band Phoenix.

Other successful albums from Glassnote in recent years include Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More (2009) and Babel (2012), which won a Grammy for Album of the Year in 2013; and Childish Gambino’s Camp (2011) Because The Internet (2013) and Awaken My Love (2016) albums.
