One thing I\u2019ve noticed over the years is entrepreneurs looking to improve the way they run their businesses tend to look around within their own industry.\u00a0 So if you\u2019re a restaurateur, you\u2019re visiting other dining establishments and chatting with other restaurant owners about their recipes for success<\/a> (pardon the pun.)\u00a0 It makes sense, of course, but I\u2019ve learned that it\u2019s foolish to stop looking for solutions once you\u2019ve canvassed other people in your industry.<\/p>\n <\/span>In fact, one of the richest sources of inspiration — particularly when it comes to efficiency — is manufacturing.\u00a0 How do I know?\u00a0 One of my companies is a small manufacturer<\/a>!\u00a0 And I\u2019ve learned so much from that company that applies across the board, regardless of my niche.\u00a0 What kinds of insight have I gained?\u00a0 Read on!<\/p>\n How does a manufacturer ensure its products are of top quality?\u00a0 Quality controls!\u00a0 They check.\u00a0 They inspect.\u00a0 They test.\u00a0 You may be scratching your head, wondering how you\u2019re supposed to assess the quality of your house cleaning business\u2019s services.\u00a0 Obviously you don\u2019t have a physical object to inspect, but whether it\u2019s a survey sent out to clients or random spot checks to evaluate your cleaners\u2019 work, finding a way to do quality control checks helps you ensure your customers are satisfied.\u00a0 If you\u2019re not making sure your clients are happy, there are plenty of other companies who will.<\/p>\n Before you can fix a bottleneck, you have to be aware of it.\u00a0 Taking a step back and assessing the flow of work and of customers through your company and your staff can let you identify where there are holdups \u2013 where the process gets bogged down.\u00a0 Bottlenecks are productivity slayers because you inevitably have idle staff downstream of the slow point, simply waiting to be able to do their jobs.\u00a0 Eliminating bottlenecks lets you run at top speed.<\/p>\n Simply put, if it doesn\u2019t benefit your bottom line or your customers, then it needs to go.\u00a0 Whether you\u2019re talking about supplies or even about employees, lean, efficient, profitable companies can\u2019t afford waste.<\/p>\n If you don\u2019t articulate company goals, you\u2019re never going to achieve them.\u00a0 And the best goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Specific \u2013 SMART.\u00a0 If you ensure that every member of your team knows exactly what you\u2019re working toward and how progress will be evaluated, then you\u2019re setting the stage for efficient, focused efforts.<\/p>\n Systems are perhaps the biggest key to getting your company running at maximum efficiency and profitability.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because everything you can automate<\/a> frees up you and your staff for other work.\u00a0 Manufacturers can\u2019t afford to have staff babysitting processes that can be automated, and neither can you.\u00a0 Establishing systems<\/a> doesn\u2019t necessarily mean you\u2019re firing employees.\u00a0 It may just mean that you\u2019re able to put your awesome staff to work on more challenging, profit-producing tasks.<\/p>\n Making your company more efficient pays huge dividends.\u00a0 It can reduce wait time for customers.\u00a0 It can enable you\u00a0provide better<\/a> customer service.\u00a0 It can help you manage your employees better, and most importantly, it can make your company more profitable.\u00a0 When you\u2019re looking to streamline, take a lesson from manufacturers!<\/p>\n Republished by permission.
