href=&#8221;https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/apple\/apple-music\/&#8221;&gt;Apple Music<\/a>, <a class=\"link-relationship\"> Spotify [2,839 articles]&#8221; href=&#8221;https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/spotify\/&#8221;&gt;Spotify<\/a>, <a class=\"link-relationship\"> YouTube [1,305 articles]&#8221; href=&#8221;https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/youtube\/&#8221;&gt;YouTube<\/a>, <a class=\"link-relationship\"> Amazon [597 articles]&#8221; href=&#8221;https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/amazon\/&#8221;&gt;Amazon<\/a>, <a class=\"link-relationship\"> Deezer [368 articles]&#8221; href=&#8221;https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/access-industries\/deezer\/&#8221;&gt;Deezer<\/a> and Tidal, as well as social platforms including TikTok, <a class=\"link-relationship\"> Instagram [320 articles]&#8221; href=&#8221;https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/facebook\/instagram\/&#8221;&gt;Instagram<\/a> and <a class=\"link-relationship\"> Facebook [395 articles]&#8221; href=&#8221;https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/facebook\/&#8221;&gt;Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the FAQ section on the label\u2019s new distribution website, artists can sign up to the service for free, with an annual cost of \u00a35 GBP (approx $6.09) per year to release a single (1-3 tracks) and \u00a315 GBP ($18) per year for an album (4-100 tracks).<\/p>\n<p>Earache says it will take a 10% cut of artists\u2019 royalties, to \u201chelp cover operational costs\u201d, and adds that artists, \u201cwill keep 100% of your rights at all times\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The launch of EDD forms part of an emerging trend of record labels launching their own distribution divisions.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/fader-label-launches-distribution-division\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Last year<\/a>, for example, New York-based indie FADER Label partnered with Virgin Music to launch a distribution division.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/300-entertainment-launches-invite-only-diy-distribution-platform-sparta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">In June 2021<\/a>, <a class=\"link-relationship\"> 300 Entertainment [66 articles]&#8221; href=&#8221;https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/300-entertainment\/&#8221;&gt;300 Entertainment<\/a>, which was <a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/confirmed-warner-paid-400m-in-cash-to-acquire-300-entertainment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">acquired<\/a> by <a class=\"link-relationship\"> Warner Music Group [2,108 articles]&#8221; href=&#8221;https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/access-industries\/warner-music-group\/&#8221;&gt;Warner<\/a> in December 2021, launched <a class=\"link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/spartadistribution.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sparta<\/a>, an invite-only distribution platform for DIY artists.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In a blog post on the EDD website,&nbsp; Tim Bailey Head Of Label \/ General Manager at Earache Records &amp; EDD promises that artists signing up to EDD will be able to \u201cspeak directly to staff at management level\u201d and that the company \u201ccan tailor the growth of our platform to [artists\u2019] needs\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Added Bailey: \u201cWithin our team we have expertise in A&amp;R, campaign and career building, manufacture [and] production, marketing and running a \u00a31m+ a year webstore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe won\u2019t promise anything we can\u2019t deliver; no promises of Rap Caviar or Kick Ass Metal playlisting on day one to reel bands in.
