Surviving the recession was hard work and recovery may not be quick or easy—but Monday we get to take a break. Labor Day is a day to recognize and celebrate the achievements of American workers. Whether the day is spent celebrating or relaxing, it is especially deserved this year. After all, Americans work hard all year long. Consider the following statistics from the US Census Bureau.
-There are more than 150 million people in the nation’s workforce today.
-Five percent of American workers hold down more than one job.
-Of moonlighters, nearly 300,000 work two full time jobs.
-Twenty eight percent of workers over 16 work more than 40 hours a week.
-Eight percent of workers over 16 work 60 or more hours a week.
If you are one of the many people who do have to work this holiday, you can still make time to celebrate your accomplishments. For example, spending your lunch time with friends or coworkers is a sure-fire way to brighten your day. Or, go ahead and schedule your own “Labor Day” for the next time you have a day off
